Siesta

Terms & Conditions

Last updated 6 November 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Oleh Hulkevych (“we”, “us”), the developer of Siesta. They are not an agreement with Apple. Apple is not a party to them, has no responsibility for Siesta, and is not the provider of the app.

Siesta is distributed through the Mac App Store, so Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to your use of it. These terms add to it. Where the two conflict, Apple's agreement wins.

By installing or using Siesta you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.

The licence you get

We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use Siesta on any Apple-branded Mac that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the App Store Terms of Service, including the rules on Family Sharing.

You may not rent, lease, lend, sell, redistribute or sublicense the app, and you may not copy, decompile, reverse-engineer, disassemble or attempt to derive its source code, except where the law expressly permits it despite this restriction. The licence covers use of the app; it does not transfer ownership of it or of anything in it.

What Siesta does to your Mac

Siesta puts your Mac into a temporary state while you clean it. Depending on which protections you switch on, it blocks keyboard input, blocks trackpad input and gestures, draws a dark layer over the main display, draws the same layer over external displays, hides the pointer, mutes the default audio output, keeps the display from sleeping, and replaces the app area of the Touch Bar with a static label.

All of it is temporary, all of it is undone when the clean ends, and none of it changes a system setting permanently. Siesta does not alter your files, your hardware or your system configuration.

Permissions you grant

Blocking input requires the Accessibility permission, which macOS asks you for and which you can withdraw at any time in System Settings. Without it, a clean will not start. Reminders, if you turn them on, require permission to send notifications. Both are yours to revoke; revoking one disables the matching feature rather than the app. What Siesta does with each is set out in the privacy policy.

Getting out

Ending a clean is always possible: hold ⌘Esc for three seconds. That shortcut is deliberately allowed through even while the keyboard is blocked. If Siesta stops running for any reason — you quit it, it crashes, the Mac restarts — macOS releases everything the app was holding and your input comes back on its own. Nothing Siesta changes can outlive the app.

Siesta is a cleaning aid, not a safety device

Siesta stops your Mac from reacting to a cloth. It does nothing else. It does not protect your Mac from liquid, from pressure, from abrasives, from static or from anything else you do to it while cleaning, and it makes no claim about which cleaning products or methods are safe for your hardware. Follow Apple's own guidance on cleaning your Mac. You are responsible for how you clean your own equipment.

Acceptable use

Use Siesta on your own Mac, for its purpose. Do not use it to interfere with a machine you do not own or control, to prevent someone else from using a Mac, or in any way that breaks the law where you are. Siesta blocks input on the Mac it is running on, at the request of whoever is at that Mac; it is not a management or restriction tool.

Price, payment and refunds

Siesta is a one-time purchase. There is no subscription, no in-app purchase and no recurring charge. Apple sells the app, takes the payment and issues refunds under its own terms — we cannot process a refund ourselves. Requests go through reportaproblem.apple.com.

Updates

Updates, when there are any, arrive through the Mac App Store under the same licence as the original purchase. We may add, change or remove features in an update. We are not obliged to keep any particular feature, to support versions of macOS older than the one the app declares, or to release updates at all.

Support

We are solely responsible for any maintenance and support for Siesta. Apple has no obligation to provide either. Support runs through support@siesta.tools, and it is one person answering.

Warranty

Siesta is provided as is and as available, without warranty of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that it will work with every Mac, every peripheral or every configuration of macOS.

Any warranty that cannot be disclaimed is our responsibility, not Apple's. If Siesta fails to conform to such a warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price to you. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to Siesta, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses attributable to a failure to conform to a warranty are our responsibility.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you, and you may have rights under consumer law that these terms cannot take away.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for loss of data, loss of use or lost profits, arising out of your use of Siesta — including anything that happens while input is blocked, and including damage to a Mac cleaned while the app was running. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the app.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that the law does not permit to be limited.

Claims about the app

We, and not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claim from you or a third party relating to Siesta or to your possession or use of it. That includes product liability claims, any claim that the app fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims arising under consumer protection, privacy or similar legislation.

Intellectual property

Siesta, its name, its artwork and its code remain ours or our licensors'. If a third party claims that Siesta infringes their intellectual property rights, we, and not Apple, are solely responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement and discharge of that claim.

Third-party components and terms

Siesta includes two open-source components, both under the MIT licence: The Composable Architecture by Point-Free, which the app is built on, and KeyboardShortcuts by Sindre Sorhus, which registers the exit shortcut. Neither connects to a network. Their copyright notices remain with them.

You must also comply with any applicable third-party terms when using Siesta — for example the App Store Terms of Service under which you obtained it.

Legal compliance

You represent and warrant that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated by the U.S. Government as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. You agree to comply with all applicable export laws when using the app.

Apple's rights under these terms

Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms. On your acceptance of them, Apple has the right — and is deemed to have accepted the right — to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.

Ending the agreement

You may end this agreement at any time by deleting Siesta from your Mac. The licence ends if you breach these terms, and the sections on warranty, liability, claims and intellectual property survive the end.

Privacy

Siesta collects nothing and sends nothing off your Mac. The privacy policy sets out, in detail, what the app stores locally and what each permission is used for.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them, and the current version is always the one on this page. Continuing to use Siesta after a change means you accept it. If you do not, stop using the app and delete it.

Who we are

Siesta is made by Oleh Hulkevych. Any question, complaint or claim about the app or about these terms should be directed to us at support@siesta.tools, which is also our contact address for the purposes of Apple's licence terms. Suggestions have their own address, listed on the support page; anything that is a question, a complaint or a claim belongs at the one above.
